Coloured Concrete Sydney: Driveway Finish Cost Guide

Coloured concrete in Sydney can mean integral oxide colour, surface colour, stamped patterns, stencil or faux-brick finishes, or coloured exposed aggregate. Budget from about $15-35/m2 extra for colour and $35-85/m2 extra for stamped or stencil work before site-specific slab costs.

MixHub helps buyers price and order ready-mix concrete. We are not an installer and we do not stamp, stencil, seal, or finish the driveway. Use this guide to brief your concreter and understand which parts are concrete supply choices versus site finishing choices.

The finish uplift sits on top of the slab cost. A driveway still needs excavation, base, formwork, reinforcement, concrete, labour, joints, drainage, and curing. See the driveway concrete cost guide for the base driveway budget.

OptionTypical extra cost40 m2 driveway uplift
Integral colour only+$15-35/m²$600-1,400
Stencil or faux brick+$35-70/m²$1,400-2,800
Stamped concrete+$45-85/m²$1,800-3,400
Exposed aggregate with colour+$35-65/m²$1,400-2,600

Sealing, UV fading, and slip risk

Decorative concrete lives or dies by curing and sealer maintenance. Uneven curing can create shade variation. UV exposure and tyre wear can dull surface colour. Sealers protect the finish, but glossy or over-applied sealers can become slippery, especially on sloped or shaded driveways.

  • Ask when the first sealer is applied and when resealing is due.
  • Keep the curing method consistent across the whole driveway.
  • Use a slip-resistant sealer where people walk or tyres brake.
  • Expect tyre paths to show wear first on surface-coloured finishes.

Ordering advice before you book concrete

Colour decisions must be coordinated between the concreter, finisher, and concrete supplier. Confirm the grade, slump, aggregate size, oxide dose, delivery timing, and number of trucks before the pour. Patterned work needs enough crew to place, screed, colour, stamp or stencil, joint, and cure before the surface gets away.

If you are choosing between pavers and decorative concrete, compare maintenance as well as install price. Pavers can be lifted and replaced; coloured concrete is faster to install as one slab but needs good joints, sealers, and surface care.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does coloured concrete cost in Sydney?
Integral coloured concrete often adds $15-35/m2. Stamped or stencil finishes commonly add $35-85/m2 depending on pattern and sealer.
Is coloured concrete the same as painted concrete?
No. Integral oxide colour is mixed through the concrete. Surface colour, stains, and sealers sit closer to the top and wear differently.
Does coloured concrete fade?
It can. UV, curing, cement colour, traffic, and sealer maintenance all affect the final colour and long-term appearance.
Is stamped concrete slippery?
It can be if the surface is smooth or over-sealed. Ask for a texture and sealer system suitable for wet driveway traffic.
