N25 Concrete (25 MPa): Price, Uses & Ordering
N25 concrete is 25 MPa normal-class concrete: the 25 MPa strength rating and N25 grade name refer to the same standard 28-day compressive strength.
N25 concrete is the standard choice for many residential driveways, garage slabs, paths, and ground-bearing slabs. In 2026, Sydney N25 material pricing is typically $340-370/m3 before delivery, short-load fees, pump hire, waiting time, and GST. Live availability is checked by postcode.

Common names
25 MPa (N25)
Suppliers, engineers, and plans may write this as 25 MPa, N25, or 25MPa. They all refer to the same normal-class concrete strength.

Where to use 25 MPa (N25) concrete
Residential driveways
N25 is the usual minimum for passenger-car driveways when slab thickness, reinforcement, and base preparation are correct.
Garage and shed slabs
For non-engineered light residential slabs, N25 is commonly used with mesh, compacted base, and control joints.
Paths and small slabs
N25 is often selected instead of N20 when a path, pad, or small pour needs better durability for a modest grade uplift.
Grade decisions: use, avoid, upgrade, or downgrade
Always follow the engineer's specification, approved drawings, council requirements, or builder direction where they nominate a concrete grade, slump, exposure class, reinforcement, or aggregate size.
When not to use 25 MPa (N25)
- Engineer-specified slabs or footings that call for N32, N40, exposure-class concrete, or special-class concrete.
- Heavy vehicle driveways, shared accessways, commercial hardstands, or suspended slabs unless approved by the engineer.
- Pool surrounds, retaining wall footings, or wet/exposed structural elements where N32 or a higher specification is nominated.
| Decision | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Use N25 | Standard driveways, garage slabs, paths, and light residential slabs. | It balances durability and price for most residential projects. |
| Upgrade to N32 | Heavy vehicles, exposed footings, pools, structural slabs, or engineer-specified work. | The higher compressive strength gives more capacity where load, exposure, or specification risk is higher. |
| Downgrade to N20 | Only for non-structural paths, blinding layers, garden edging, or very light-duty work. | N20 can save money, but it is not the right choice for vehicle traffic or structural work. |
